Dr. Tasha Alston is an Assistant Professor at the University of Pittsburgh: School of Medicine. 

Dr. Tasha Alston is a distinguished fatherhood researcher, educator, and advocate whose work is dedicated to advancing our understanding of the diverse experiences and contributions of fathers, with a particular focus on Black fathers. As an academic researcher (Social Work and Educational Psychology) and university administrator, Dr. Alston brings a unique blend of scholarly rigor and practical insight to the study of fatherhood, emphasizing the critical role fathers play and the contributions fathers make in family well-being, child development, and strengthening families.

Dr. Alston is at the forefront of investigating how societal, cultural, and structural factors influence fatherhood. Description

The research is limited to the role of fathers in maternal health. Fathers are largely not included in perinatal care, and their contribution may be essential in addressing the maternal health disparity crisis. The purpose of this presentation is to examine the evidence of fathers involvement in supporting maternal health during the perinatal period. This presentation will focus on the potential for fathers to play a key role in improving maternal health. This presentation will enhance the evidence base on fathers’ involvement in maternal health, highlight the research gaps, and opportunities to focus on fathers in addressing maternal morbidity and mortality among women.
